Normally, you send an invitation for any kind of event enclosed in an envelope. However, pirates didn’t do any such thing. They used paper scrolls instead of card paper. Also they didn’t use envelopes, but bottles for sending their messages from one place in the ocean to the other. Why shouldn’t you do the same?
You can get a small glass bottle anywhere. Even bottles made of strong plastic will do the job, but glass is the best, since it is what was used originally. If you have bottles with a cork, it would be an even better thing. Roll your invitation and put them into the bottle. To enhance the feeling of being a pirate, you can even put some shells and some sand inside if you like.
All invitations include the address to the venue of the party (duh!). The pirate birthday invitations will also include these, but you still will of course be, well… piratey. Pirates used only maps and not addresses in their messages, because there no addresses then (pirates were illegal, remember?). They instead used maps to denote directions for a given destination.
You must surely have seen the treasure maps in all the Pirates of the Caribbean Movies. That is what you are going to do with your pirate kids birthday invitations too. Create a map in a paper and bake it for some time into the oven. Also the borders of the paper and some parts should be charred so that they look old. You can then give directions to the venue on the map. Isn’t that a great idea?
The pirates, in the old days, also used to write messages on shells and even sand dollar. If you can, you can also try this method of invitation. I know you cannot write much on the shell of sand dollar, but you can at least include it in the invitations along with the scroll which you will send. You can consider it as a keepsake for the invitees. They will feel even more invited to your pirate party.
If you used love watching the treasure hunts where people search for the Holy Grail – the treasure chest, you can use it instead of the bottle. That also adds a mystery element to the invitations. Maybe you can ask them to try a two digit number to unlock the invitation. All these small things are what can make the invitations exciting for the invitees.
There are many more ideas that you can come up for creative pirate birthday invitations. These were just a few that I could think of. If you have seen the movies many times, you may be able to come up with even better ones.
